Katchi Named Co-Director of Advanced Cardiac Imaging

Assistant Professor of Medicine Farhan Katchi, MD has been appointed Cardiology Co-Director of the Advanced Cardiac Imaging (CT/MR) Program, a joint effort between Cardiology and Radiology, reinvigorating the program that was started in 2006 by Benico Barzilai, MD and Pamela Woodard, MD. He will join Scott Bugenhagen, MD, PhD who will assume the Co-Director role on the Radiology side. As before, this jointly led program will grow advanced cardiac imaging, and foster training and research in advanced cardiac imaging, in a collaborative fashion between the two groups. Together with our colleagues in Radiology, we are excited to begin a new chapter of this collaborative effort.

Dr. Katchi received his MD from WashU, completed medicine residency at BJH/WashU, and cardiology fellowship at Weill-Cornell Medical College. In 2018, he was appointed as Assistant Professor at Drexel University/Allegheny General Hospital, where he also served as a cardiac imager and Director of the Center for Aortic Diseases. In 2021, Dr. Katchi returned to WashU as an Assistant Professor of Medicine, secondary appointment in Radiology, with a particular focus on advanced cardiac imaging as well as general cardiology.

Dr. Katchi has distinguished himself as a thoughtful clinician and superb cardiac imager, active in cardiac CT, CMR, nuclear cardiology, and echocardiography. He has increased joint training and research opportunities in cardiac imaging, and his expertise in cardiac CT and CCTA has benefited both the Cardiovascular Division and the Department of Radiology. He serves on the ACC Imaging Council and its Education and Communication Committee and is a member of the Editorial Board of Circulation – Cardiovascular Imaging. He has also excelled as a clinical educator, receiving received the Outstanding Faculty Teaching Award from the WashU Cardiology Fellows in 2024.
