The inaugural WashU Cardiology Forum: Educate. Innovate. Collaborate. brought together cardiologists, advanced practice providers, pharmacists, trainees and primary care clinicians from across the region on June 6 at the Hilton St. Louis Frontenac for a full day of education, discussion and professional collaboration. The forum highlighted the breadth of expertise within the WashU Medicine Cardiovascular Division and demonstrated the division’s commitment to advancing cardiovascular care through clinical excellence, research innovation and continuing education.
Planned and implemented by an team of WashU providers, the meeting was designed to foster the exchange of knowledge and best practices across the rapidly evolving field of cardiovascular medicine. Through lectures, case-based presentations, panel discussions and interactive break out sessions, attendees explored some of the important issues shaping patient care today.
The forum was led by Course Director Andrew Kates, MD with Course Co-Directors Joshua Mitchell, MD, MSCI, and Amy Mueller, MSN, ANP-BC. Their leadership reflects the collaborative culture that defines WashU Medicine and the multidisciplinary approach increasingly essential to delivering outstanding cardiovascular care.
Throughout the day, WashU faculty shared expertise spanning the full spectrum of cardiovascular medicine. Educational sessions addressed prevention and risk reduction, coronary artery disease, advanced cardiac imaging, electrophysiology, heart failure, structural heart disease, adult congenital heart disease, cardio-obstetrics and cardiac amyloidosis. Attendees also explored emerging areas that are transforming cardiovascular practice, including artificial intelligence, cardiometabolic therapies and novel interventions for complex cardiac conditions.
The program also emphasized areas where WashU faculty continue to build national leadership, including congenital heart disease, cardio-obstetrics and the application of artificial intelligence in cardiovascular medicine. These discussions showcased how clinicians and investigators across the division are helping shape the future of patient care while addressing the needs of diverse patient populations throughout the region and beyond.
