Director, Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology Fellowship Program

Justin M. Vader, MD

The Washington University Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology Fellowship Program is an ACGME-accredited one year training program for graduates of general cardiology fellowship training programs. It provides concentrated experience in the management of patients with advanced heart failure including candidate selection, peri-operative management, and longitudinal care of patients supported with left ventricular assist devices and cardiac transplant. Our fellows are central to the success of our high volume left ventricular assist device and transplant program and are engaged in quality improvement initiatives and clinical research involving advanced heart failure and transplant care. In addition to heart failure training, fellows acquire complementary skills in managing pulmonary hypertension, palliative care, transplant immunology, and transplant infectious disease. Our fellows consistently go on to work in strong academically-oriented advanced heart failure programs across the nation.
