Investigator Pathway

Fellows on the investigational track spend a minimum of two years obtaining research experience, generally after finishing clinical training. Since the division has an NIH-sponsored research training grant (T32), fellows do not need to obtain their own funding to pursue 2 years of dedicated research. However, since grant writing is an essential component of research career development, we encourage fellows aspiring to become independent investigators to apply for grants during the course of their training. Fellows on the investigator track may also seek individualized career paths that incorporate advanced clinical training to develop specialized areas of focus as physician-scientists.
