Research Interests:
Dr. Mann's primary area of research is in the molecular and cellular basis of heart failure, with a particular emphasis on the role of inflammatory mediators and innate immunity in disease progression in the failing heart. The Mann laboratory has also sought to translate concepts derived in the laboratory into "transitional" phase II and phase III clinical trials. (Mann Lab) He has published numerous articles and reviews in this field, is the editor for "Braunwald's Heart Disease", as well as the editor for "Heart Failure, A Companion to Braunwald's Heart Disease." Dr. Mann has previously served as the Deputy Editor for Chest and was an Associate Editor for Circulation. He is currently a member of the Editorial Board of Circulation, Circulation Heart Failure, the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, JACC Heart Failure, Cardiology Today, Heart and Vessles, and Heart Failure Reviews. He has received numerous awards including the Michael E DeBakey award for Excellence in Research, the Alfred Soffer Award for Editorial Excellence from the American College of Chest Physicians, and the Simon Dack Award for Outstanding Scholarship from the American College of Cardiology. Dr. Mann is a member of the American Society for Clinical Investigation, the American Association of Physicians, the American Clinical and Climatologic Association, the Association of University Cardiologists, the Association of Professors of Cardiology and is a past president of the Heart Failure Society of America.
